Scholars of Islam have always talked about I’jaz al-Quran – the miraculous nature of the Quran. This is the biggest proof that the Quran is from Allah. People, even the best poets of Arabia, they tried to make something like the Quran. They failed! This is because the Quran is perfect in its:
- Balagha (Eloquence): The language is so beautiful, so powerful. No one can copy it.
- Meaning and Laws: The teachings are perfect for all times, all people.
- Science and history: The Quran speaks with correct information.
- Quranic Prophecies. It will be our main point in the article.
But today, our focus is on Quranic prophecies. These show that Allah knows everything – past, present, and future.
Quranic prophecies are statements in the Holy Quran that tell us about events that will happen in the future, after the time that specific portion of Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The amazing thing is, these Quranic prophecies are not just about small things. They are about big events! About the fate of nations, wars, victories… things a normal man, especially an Ummi (unlettered) man like our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), could never know. He was living in the desert of Makkah!
Let us look at some examples, in sha’ Allah (God willing).
1. Quranic Prophecy Concerning Roman Victory
This is a very famous prophecy. At that time the Persian empire, the worshippers of fire defeated the Roman empire.
The Romans (who were Christian) were defeated by the Persians (who were fire-worshippers).
The Muslims in Makkah were sad because a people of the Book (Christians were closer to Muslims than fire worshipers) had lost.
The Mushrikeen (polytheists) of Makkah, they were happy, they taunted the Muslims.
But Allah revealed these verses in Surat Ar-Rum (30: 2-6):
“The Romans have been defeated * In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. * Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice * In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. * [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know.”
Allah promised that the Romans would win in a few years (“bid’i sineen بِضْعِ سِنِينَ” means between 3 and 9 years).
It seemed impossible! The Romans were very weak.
But it happened! Just as the Quran said, the Romans won around 622 AD. This is a prophecy that the mushrikeen (polytheists) of Mecca laughed at. They mocked the Muslims. But when it came true, exactly as Allah said, it was a powerful sign.
2. Quranic Prophecy Concerning The Victory at Badr
Allah also promised victory to the Muslims at Badr. This is in Surah Al-Qamar (54-45):
“[Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat]”
At the time, the Muslims were few, weak. And Quraysh (the tribe of Makkah) were strong and many.
Even Umar ibn al-Khattab (radiyallahu anhu – may Allah be pleased with him) was surprised! He asked, “What group will be defeated?”
But on the day of Badr, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was reciting this verse, and it came true!
The Muslims won a great victory. This was impossible from a human point of view. Only Allah could have known.
Think! The Muslims were outnumbered, 314 against almost 1000! They were not ready for battle. They were going for the caravan. How could any man predict such a victory? It is only from Allah!
Al-Imam Al-Qurtubi, a great scholar, said this is one of the mu’jizat (miracles) of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Allah also says in Surah Al-Anfal:
“And [remember] when Allah promised you [Muslims] one of the two parties – that it would be yours – and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers.”
Allah promised the Muslims either the caravan of Quraysh (with wealth) or victory in battle. The Muslims wanted the caravan (easier!), but Allah chose the victory. He wanted to show the truth of Islam.
3. Quranic Prophecy Concerning The Death of Abu Lahab as a Non-Believer
This is a very powerful prophecy, very clear. It is in Surah Al-Masad (111):
“May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he. * His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained. * He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame. * And his wife [as well] – the carrier of firewood. * Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber”.
This Surah says Abu Lahab (the Prophet’s uncle) and his wife would die as kuffar (disbelievers) and go to Hell.
Abu Lahab lived for about 10 years after this Surah was revealed! He could have said, “I am Muslim now!” just to make the Quran look wrong “See? The Quran is wrong!”. He could have pretended to become Muslim! But he didn’t! He died a kafir, just as the Quran said.
This is very amazing! Because a smart enemy would do that, you know? But Allah knew he would never become Muslim.
4. The Prophet’s Protection From Being Killed
Allah promised to protect the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from being killed. This is in Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:67):
“O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.”
Before this verse, the Sahaba (Companions) used to guard the Prophet (peace be upon him).
After this verse, the Prophet told them to leave, because Allah had promised to protect him.
And it happened! Many enemies tried to kill him, but they failed. Allah protected him. Many kings and leaders were killed even with their guards, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) was safe, even when he was among his enemies!
5. The Promise of Entering Mecca for Umrah
Allah promised the Muslims they would enter Makkah again, after being prevented from it. This is in Surah Al-Fath (48:47):
“Certainly has Allah showed to His Messenger the vision in truth. You will surely enter al-Masjid al-Haram, if Allah wills, in safety, with your heads shaved and [hair] shortened, not fearing [anyone]. He knew what you did not know and has arranged before that a conquest near [at hand]”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) saw a dream that he entered Makkah. But in the year of Hudaybiyyah, the Muslims were stopped. Some were worried.
But Allah revealed this verse, promising they would enter Makkah SAFELY.
And it happened! In the 7th year after Hijrah, they entered Makkah for Umrah (minor pilgrimage).
The verse also says, “and has arranged before that a conquest near [at hand]“. This refers to the conquest of Khaybar, which also happened in the 7th year. Two prophecies, both fulfilled!
6. The Quran’s Prophecy Concerning the Inimitability of the Quran
The mushrikeen said the Prophet (peace be upon him) made up the Quran.
The Prophecy (Challenge): Allah challenged them – and all people and jinn – to produce something like the Quran, even one Surah. This is in Surah Al-Isra’ (17:88):
“Say, ‘If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants.'”
Then Allah made it easier! He challenged them to make ten Surahs like it (Surah Hud: 11:13). Then, even easier! Just one Surah (Surah Al-Baqarah: 2: 23-24).
“And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. * But if you do not – and you will never be able to – then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.”
For over 1400 years, no one has been able to do it! This is a continuing prophecy, a challenge that still stands today. The Quran is unique in its language, its style, its teachings – everything! Many have tried, but they all failed. Their words were weak, silly.
This shows the Quran is from Allah, not from a man.

Conclusion:
The Quran foretells remarkable events, proving its divine origin. It accurately predicted the Roman Empire’s victory over the Persians within a few years, despite seeming impossible at the time. Similarly, it foretold the Muslims’ unexpected triumph at Badr, when a small, ill-equipped army overcame a much larger force.
Another astonishing prophecy was about Abu Lahab, who, despite having years to disprove it, died a disbeliever as the Quran stated. Additionally, the Quran guaranteed the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) protection from harm, a promise fulfilled despite numerous assassination attempts.
Other prophecies include the Muslims’ return to Makkah for Umrah, which materialized despite initial setbacks. The Quran also issued a standing challenge—no human or jinn has ever matched its linguistic and literary excellence, despite repeated efforts. These fulfilled prophecies continue to stand as undeniable proof of the Quran’s truth, inspiring Muslims to deepen their connection with its teachings.
