by | May 19, 2026 | Quran courses

“How to Celebrate Eid Al-Adha With Kids ?”, is a common question among Muslims in the West, some Muslims  living in the West have feeling of an inner conflict to remain faithful to their religion while being exposed to another culture. It seems that even such simple things as prayers, modest dress and wearing hijab may be a challenge for Muslims. As well, this emotional weight may increase considerably during the holiday of Eid. But for Muslims living away from their home countries, Eid, which is supposed to be the day of happiness, unity and celebration, becomes something else, despite all its positives. They don’t have the ability to visit their relatives, to enjoy the Eid spirit that spreads around the town, to bring back the “Feeling of Eid” at home.

But actually, there are ways to keep your traditions and get the feeling of Eid by decorating homes, preparing special dishes, visiting mosques, and calling our relatives around the world.

So,I’ve put together 5 ideas to help you celebrate Eid with your kids in Western countries specially who lives in UK & US and Canada and make it a truly special occasion, and a chance to build connection with Quran.

1 – Telling the Story of Prophet Ibrahim for Kids

One of the best ways to celebrate Eid al-Adha with kids is to tell them the beautiful story behind this special occasion. Tell them about the complete faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim towards Allah and how he was ready to offer his son as a sacrifice for the sake of Allah became a strong lesson for Muslims everywhere. You can tell the story in a simple, emotional way suitable for their age which helps them learn values like trust in Allah, sincerity, patience and devotion.

You can use :

  • animated videos,
  • coloring activities,

or even small family storytelling sessions before Eid to make the experience more engaging. When children know the meaning behind Eid al-Adha the celebration becomes more than just new clothes and gifts – it becomes a spiritual memory that they will carry with them as they grow up.

2 – Fill Your Home With Eid Takbeer and Repeat It Together

One of the simplest ways celebrate Eid al-Adha with kids is to fill your house with the beautiful sound of Eid Takbeer. Before Eid, the streets, mosques and homes in many Muslim countries are filled with Takbeer, but Muslim families in the US and UK may not always be surrounded by that atmosphere. This is why creating these moments at home can let children feel the joy and spirit of Eid in a very real way.

Play Eid Takbeer in the morning while cooking or getting ready for Eid prayer. Then explain the simple meaning of the words in a way your kids can understand and encourage them to repeat the words with you. Small traditions like these also help children build a strong emotional connection with Eid and create beautiful memories that will stay with them for years.

You can also listen together and practice the Takbeer daily during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah.

4 – Teach your kids the Quranic verses about Eid al-Adha

One of the most important things we can do for our kids during this blessed time is to teach them the Quranic verses about Eid al-Adha in a simple and emotional way and appropriate for their age . This helps them build a deeper love for the Quran and their faith.

Then when the boy reached the age to work with him, Abraham said, “O my dear son! I have seen in a dream that I ˹must˺ sacrifice you. So tell me what you think.” He replied, “O my dear father! Do as you are commanded. Allah willing, you will find me steadfast. [As-Saffat 37:102]

When Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) submitted completely to Allah’s command, Allah, in His infinite mercy, accepted his submission and omitted a great ram for his son as a sacrifice. Every year Muslims observe this time with Eid al-Adha by sacrificing an animal for this great event.

“وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍۢ “

And We ransomed his son with a great sacrifice.

“لَن يَنَالَ ٱللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلَا دِمَآؤُهَا وَلَـٰكِن يَنَالُهُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ مِنكُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ سَخَّرَهَا لَكُمْ لِتُكَبِّرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَىٰكُمْ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ”

Neither their meat nor blood reaches Allah. Rather, it is your piety that reaches Him. This is how He has subjected them to you so that you may proclaim the greatness of Allah for what He has guided you to, and give good news to the good-doers.

There is a deep wisdom behind each act of worship in Islam. While on these blessed days of Eid al-Adha and Hajj, let us reflect The objectives of Hajj and what it teaches us
