Does Reading The Quran On The Phone Count?

by | Nov 28, 2025 | Quran courses

If I’m going on a trip for a relatively long time and I forget to bring my Mushaf, but I want to continue my daily Quran recitation, I will decide to continue from the Mushaf on my phone. Reading the Quran nourishes my soul, brings peace to my heart, and reminds me of the purpose for which we were created and of Allah’s names and attributes.

The first question that comes to mind is: Does reading the Quran on the phone count? This article answers that question and guides you on how to interact with the Quran on your phone, while also explaining the differences between digital recitation and reading from a physical Mushaf.

Does Reading The Quran On The Phone Count?

The answer is simply: yes, insha’Allah, according to the scholars of Islam. The Hadiths about the virtue of reading the Quran do not specify that recitation must be from a physical Mushaf only. This means that reading from memory or other valid forms of the Quran is also rewarded.

In the prophetic era, Muslims recited the Quran from memory or from written verses. The scribes of revelation used whatever writing materials were available at their time, such as pieces of leather, cloth, or paper.

They also wrote on animal bones and shoulder blades, palm leaves, stones, wood pieces placed on camels, wooden boards, and sections of palm trunks. This shows us that whether physical pages, digital screens, or memory, the reward does not change.

Surely, memorization carries a great reward as well. Undoubtedly, the reward depends not only on recitation itself but also on reflection and understanding of the verses. Reading the Quran with thought and contemplation increases its spiritual impact, strengthens the connection with Allah, and brings reward as a result.

Comparison Between Reading From A Physical Mushaf And Reading On A Mobile Phone

Reading the Quran is very important. We should always approach it with seriousness and respect, as it is the word of Allah. There is almost no difference between Rules for Reading and reciting the Quran from the Mushaf and the phone.

Here is a simple comparison between reading from a Physical Mushaf and reading on a Mobile Phone to help you choose between them in different situations.

Advantages Of Reading The Quran On Your Phone

The availability of the Quran on mobiles is truly a mercy from Allah and a sign of His care for the Quran and its readers. It solves a practical problem for anyone who wants to continue recitation in different situations. Reading the Quran on the phone has many other advantages:

1. You should not perform wudu every time before reading:

According to the opinion of all scholars, wudu is not required before reading the Quran on the phone. We know that Islamic scholars have differing opinions on this, but the most commonly held view is that you must be in a state of wudu before touching the Mushaf.

If you want to recite but cannot perform wudu at the moment, you can recite from your phone without worrying about it. However, it is important to know that performing wudu before reading the Quran is, of course, the best and most complete way.

2. Read the Quran on the phone anywhere, anytime

Whoever goes to any place without a phone! Having a phone makes it easy to continue your recitation wherever you are, whether at home, traveling, or on a break. You can make use of spare moments throughout your day to recite the Quran from your phone. This turns your waiting minutes into mountains of reward

3. Facilitate listening to an expert reciter.

If you do not know the right pronunciation of any Quranic vocabulary, you can use any Quran app that allows you to listen to the recitation of an expert reciter by touching the Ayah and selecting your favourite reciter.

You can also master recitation so you don’t get stuck in that situation through our online Quranic recitation course.

4. You can repeat and review easily.

Some apps let you repeat verses or sections multiple times to aid memorization and understanding. This is very useful for people who prefer memorizing through frequent listening.

Repeating the Ayah makes you reflect on it and extract its meanings. It also helps you while learning the Tajweed. This will be very helpful when you are studying a practical Tajweed course.

Choosing our Amli Tajweed course frees you from having to repeat verses on your phone, because we go over them during the session until you master the rules, along with regular evaluations.

5. You can reach Tafsir and Translation more easily:

Certain applications make it simple to view the tafsir or translation of verses instantly. This is very simple compared to searching another book of the tafseer, finding the Ayah, then translating the Ayah, which may be exhausting and time-consuming.

You can learn more about the meaning of Ayat al Quran through the best online Quran Tafseer course.

6. Easier Reading with an Adjustable Display

You can change font size, background color, or night mode to make reading comfortable and easier on the eyes, unlike a physical Mushaf, where you have to choose it in advance. If it’s not comfortable for your eyes, you’d have to switch the entire book.

Most apps allow you to bookmark verses, make notes, and track your progress in a way that’s difficult with a physical Mushaf.
