When we say “quranic arabic books”, we mean books specifically designed to help non-Arabic speakers learn the Arabic language as it is used in the Holy Quran. These books often focus on vocabulary, grammar rules (like nahw and sarf), and sometimes even the style and eloquence (balagha) of the Quranic text. 

Now, let’s explore some excellent books for learning Quranic Arabic that can guide you on this blessed path:

1.  Learning Quranic Arabic for Complete Beginners

If you are just starting out and know absolutely nothing about Arabic, then “Learning Quranic Arabic for Complete Beginners” by Ikram Hawramani might be perfect for you. 

This book is like a friendly teacher that guides you through the Arabic language of the Quran in a simple way. It’s designed so you can learn by yourself, step-by-step.

2. Essentials of Quranic Arabic

This first volume for Quranic Arabic studies by Masood Ranginwala is like a strong foundation for your learning. It carefully takes you step-by-step through the basics of Quranic grammar. The special thing about this book is that it doesn’t focus on everyday Arabic words or conversations. 

Instead, it concentrates on the important grammar rules and Quranic vocabulary that you will see again and again in the Quran. You will find many examples taken directly from the Quran to help you understand.

3. Quranic Arabic: For Beginners (Level 1)

This Quranic Arabic book for beginners, the first in a series by Suzan Nihad M.Sc., is designed for those who are learning Arabic as a second language. It focuses on the very basics, like learning the Arabic alphabet, understanding how words are put together, reading correctly, pronunciation, writing, and memorizing important words. 

The book uses a unique method of analyzing and categorizing Arabic words, using a step-by-step approach like building blocks. It shows you how letters combine to form meaningful words, with translations, pictures, and even tells you exactly where in the Quran you can find that word (by Surah and Ayah number). 

This book is also like a dictionary of Quranic terms. It gives you rules to help avoid mistakes in grammar and spelling and has lots of worksheets and coloring activities to keep you engaged. You will learn Arabic while also learning about the Quran!

4. Elementary Grammar for Qur’anic Arabic

“Elementary Grammar for Qur’anic Arabic” by Mohammed Moidul Haque, Nasir Z Siddiqi, and Zakia S Haque is the first part of a big series (2 volumes, 6 books!) that focuses on the grammar of the Quranic language. It’s made for English-speaking adults who want to understand the meaning of the Quranic verses. 

This volume is divided into three books: one about nouns, one about past tense verbs, and one about present tense and command verbs. What makes this book special is that it gives you grammar rules in short, easy lessons.

 It also provides many examples from the Quran for every rule. 

Plus, it uses special diagrams (dependency graphs) from Corpus.Quran.com to show how words in a sentence are connected, making it easier to understand the grammar. 

5. Understand Quranic Arabic: 2022 Edition

“Understand Quranic Arabic” by Imam Adam Jamal and Fathima Haseefa is a workbook designed to make understanding the language of the Quran simpler. It’s important to know that this book works together with an online course on getquranic.com. 

This curriculum tries to answer a big question: How can a student understand as much of the Quran as possible in the shortest amount of time? 

The answer is by focusing on the Quran itself, writing for English speakers by showing similarities and differences between English and Arabic, and prioritizing reading over speaking or writing. It also starts with the most common words. 

6. 80% OF QUR’ANIC WORDS: Classified word lists for easy memorisation

This book by Dr. Abdulazeez Abdulraheem and edited by M M Jalaluddin is all about vocabulary! If you learn the words in this book, you will understand about 8 out of every 9 words in the Quran (on average). 

The book lists words in an easy way to help you remember them. The first few pages contain the words that appear most often. The book then lists nouns and verbs and how many times they appear in the Quran. 

For each verb, it gives you the past tense, present tense, command form, and other forms. This book assumes that with this information, you can figure out the whole verb structure (some examples are given at the end).

7. My First 100 Quranic Arabic Words

“My First 100 Quranic Arabic Words” by Imam Adam Jamal is a fun and easy book for young English-speaking children (ages 3+) to start learning Arabic words from the Quran. This book aims to make learning Arabic simple and enjoyable for all ages.

It helps kids (and even adults who are new to Arabic!) learn their first Quranic words in a fun way.

8. The Essential Book of Quranic Words

“The Essential Book of Quranic Words” by Abrar Khan is like a comprehensive dictionary of the Quran’s basic vocabulary. It says you can learn all 77,500 words of the entire Quran by knowing less than 5,000 basic words! 

The book has a clear and colorful list of words, arranged by their root meaning. 

9. Qur’anic Arabic: Delve and Dive in the Language of the Qur’an

“Qur’anic Arabic: Delve and Dive in the Language of the Qur’an” by Nasser Isleem and Khalid Shahu is considered a leading book for those at an intermediate level of learning. It uses a communicative approach and consistently focuses on the vocabulary and style of the Quran. 

It helps you improve all your language skills through various exercises. 

10. Arabic Course for English Speaking Students – Madina Islamic University 3 Volumes Set

This three-volume set for learning Quranic and Traditional Arabic by V. Abdur Rahim is a very popular and comprehensive course that was originally used at the famous Madinah Islamic University. 

It’s designed for non-Arabic speaking students from all over the world. 

Over the years, this course has helped many students become good at using the Arabic language so they can study important Islamic subjects like Quranic explanation (tafsir), Hadith, Islamic law (fiqh), the Prophet’s life (sirah), history, and classical and modern Arabic literature. It’s concise but covers a lot. 

It combines modern Arabic words with the Islamic terms used in the Quran and Sunnah. It helps you understand hundreds of Quranic verses, Hadith, Arabic stories, and poetry.
